Pour and Bake (45-60 minutes):
Pour custard into prepared baking dish or divide evenly among pans.
Place baking dish or pans in larger baking dish.
Carefully pour hot water into larger pan until it reaches about halfway up sides of custard pan.
Bake the custard in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. The custard should be set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
Cool and decorate (at least 2 hours):
Carefully remove the custard from the oven and remove the baking dish or molds from the water bath.
Let the custard cool to room temperature, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
Before serving, sprinkle lightly with ground nutmeg for an extra savory touch (optional).
