The next morning, still exhausted, I went to see Mathieu. Her smile said it all.
She placed a folder in front of me and began to speak:
“Your father was a wise man, Dawn. I knew Charlotte would kick you out as soon as she got the house.”
I shivered when I heard that. Did you know?
Mathieu opened the file and revealed an incredible secret to me:
My father inherited a considerable sum seven years ago: almost two million euros.
He divided this money into two parts… but under certain conditions.
A trap for Charlotte
If Charlotte wanted to receive her share of the inheritance, she had to share the house with me.

Mathieu smiled.
“The clock,” he simply said.
I turned over my father’s watch and noticed small scratches on the back of the case.
A four-digit code.
It was the code to the safe. My father had planned everything.
